You can do your job wherever and whenever you want…You get to spend more time with your family…Everyday is a no-pants-day, you’ve heard the typical benefits of working from home (and yes, they’re all true!) But there are other, less spoken about perks of being a remote employee. Here a just a few of my favorites:
1. You get to be DJ, all day long.
“Hellooooooo, how are you?” How am I? Tired of the hearing the same song over and over! When you work from home you get to choose your own music. Is german electropop what gets you going? Blast it. A little Whitney Houston on Fridays? Go for it. You can even opt for no music at all.
2. The cold won’t bother you anyway.
Did you know that office temperatures can have a significant impact on people’s productivity and ability to perform? A study from Cornell University researchers revealed that employees committed 44% more mistakes when office temperatures were low than when they were warm. Temperature is a non-issue when you telecommute.
3. You can multitask, your way.
The lines between work and play can become very blurry when you call your home your office. I like to take full advantage of this by combining work-related tasks with errands and even fun time. Farming XP while brainstorming for a client or catching up on emails while waiting at the doctor’s office — anything goes as long as your work gets done.
4. You can let your inner chef shine.
Having Julia Child’s boeuf bourguignon for dinner during a weekday is out of the question when you have a 9-to-5 office job. But taking time out of your work day to prep a nice dinner is totally doable when your gig is remote.
5. You’re always there to receive your packages.
This one’s pretty much self explanatory. A few things are more annoying than that little pink slip stuck to your door letting you know that your precious merchandise is only another 24 hours away!
6. You get the best stall in the building all for yourself.
Last but not least, the privilege, the joy, the undeniable satisfaction that comes with having a private stall. When business comes knocking through the back door you’ll be able to take care of it in the comfort of your own home. Yes, I know this one has been mentioned time and time again, but it is still pretty awesome!
